Domaine de Bouchon comprises two separate houses, owned by the same family and situated about 100 metres apart on the same property. Each house sleeps 6 people and can be booked on its own, or they can be booked together when they will share the swimming pool. The two houses are out of sight of each other and can be used completely privately.
The two houses, together with their associated barns and outbuildings, form a charming group of buildings on the side of a small hidden valley down a one kilometre private drive - but you will be only 15 minutes' drive from the elegant market town of Condom. The drive splits as you arrive in a small stand of trees at the edge of property, where you will fork right to Bouchon Bas or left to Bouchon Haut.
Bouchon Haut is the smarter of the two properties. It has been very well converted from a 200 years old farmhouse, and is now superbly furnished and equipped. The house sits perfectly on the side of a valley with views from its sheltered sun terraces across fields to the woods opposite. The very attractive, well-planted gardens, full of lavender and roses, include old stone walls and terraces left over from earlier farm buildings.
The main entrance door leads into a large, well-equipped kitchen, with an old fire place with a wood-burning stove. Beyond the kitchen is the ‘back-kitchen’, leading out on to the lovely shady terrace with its dining table and chairs and large planted pots and tubs. Next to the covered terrace is an open sun terrace – and the whole of this area is sheltered but open to cool breezes coming up the valley.
Also leading from the kitchen is the spacious, elegant dining room with a fine open log fire place and a French Door out to the front of the house. This is a room in which to enjoy memorable meals! The dining room leads on into a ‘winter’ sitting room, with book-lined walls, a huge stone fireplace with wood-burning stove and deep comfortable chairs; this room also has doors on to the front and rear terraces.
Out of the dining room a short passage leads to the 'summer' sitting room which has wide French doors out on to the rear terrace. Also from the dining room, old stone stairs lead up to a spacious, well-lit South-facing landing which has been equipped as a 'home office' with work tables, a laptop computer and a printer provided for tenants, already connected to the internet.
From this landing there is access to the three double bedrooms. The East bedroom is the largest and has an ensuite bath/shower room; the West bedroom also has an ensuite shower room and the North bedroom has a private shower room just off the landing.
Across the gravelled front terrace there is a pair of stone barns, one of which is open-sided and provides an ideal space for games on rainy days.
Bouchon Bas is less smart than Bouchon Haut but offers the same overall accommodation. The property has been thoughtfully converted to provide a simple, well-organised, and comfortable holiday home. While the house is close enough to work well as a second house to Bouchon Haut, for another family, for grand-parents, for an ‘au pair’ and children, or any other combination, it is also out of sight and can be used separately. Bouchon Bas has a separate drive from the edge of the property and has its own parking area.
Initially you will enter the house from the parking area by the front door, directly into the large, double height living room. This is a very attractive, light and airy space with stairs leading up to a first floor gallery. Comfortably furnished with large sofas, it has TV and wood-burning stove. At the end near the front door, a door and lobby lead to the ground floor double bedroom with its private shower room. This is ideal for someone with limited mobility who might find the stairs difficult. At the other end of the living room (the far end from the entrance door) is the single height dining area, with dining table for six, and beyond that the large, open-plan kitchen. The kitchen is simple but properly equipped as a holiday kitchen, with fridge, freezer, microwave, gas hob and oven. From the kitchen you go directly outside to the South-East facing covered terrace, which is a most appealing space set in a small lavender garden and perfect for breakfast – or any other meal during the day!
Back into the living room and at the end nearest to the main entrance door, wooden stairs rise to the well-designed gallery which gives access to the two charming upstairs double bedroom-bathroom suites.
The living room has a TV and a Bluray player which will play both blurays and DVD’s. There is also a very powerful wood-burning stove, which can get very hot! There are logs in the barn by the front parking area available for your use.
This barn also has a ping-pong table, bats and balls, and other family games available for your use.
Looking out from the covered terrace of Bouchon Bas and up through the orchard, you can just see the swimming pool (12m x 6m). This is well-set in wooden 'decking' terraces, surrounded by lawns and sited beyond the orchard some distance from the house. The pool is fenced and well-provided with awnings, parasols and sunbeds.
If you go down the path at the back of the swimming pool, you will come to a secluded pond fed by our spring. Please ensure that young children do not visit this area alone, as there are no safety barriers or other protective mechanisms.

10km to Condom, good shops, bakeries, supermarket, bars, restaurants, post office, banks, markets Sunday and Wednesday, lovely C16th cathedral; statues of the FOUR Musketeers!
20km to Nerac, attractive town with good shops and supermarket, Henry IV's chateau and his octagonal bath house on the river lovely market on Saturday mornings.
